Gonzalo Castro has extended his contract with Borussia Dortmund for another year until 2020.
After Julian Weigl and Christian Pulisic, it is another contract extension with a Dortmund midfielder. Castro’s previous contract was due to expire in 2019.
“I’m very happy about the trust the club is showing me,” the 29-year-old was quoted in BVB’s press release, adding: “To be frank: It makes me proud to wear the Black and Yellow shirt and play in front of such great fans.”
Castro, who joined the Ruhr side from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015, is one of ten players with over 2000 minutes across competitions this season, making him an integral part in Thomas Tuchel’s system. He has reached a consistent level of form for the first time in Dortmund in recent weeks, after struggling early on in 2017.
“Gonzo has become an integral member of the team, developing as a footballer but also as personality,” sporting director Michael Zorc said.
