Erik Durm (24) missed Borussia Dortmund’s official Bundesliga Media Day on Wednesday. The fullback had inflamed tissue removed from his right knee in Straubing.
According to the club he will back in Dortmund on Friday. How long Thomas Tuchel has to make do without the versatile defender remains uncertain.
Durm, who played 51 Bundesliga matches for Dortmund, had to undergo surgery on his left knee in September 2015. The 24-year-old was sidelined for the entire Hinrunde of the 2015/2016 due to injury.
Because of his knee problems the 2014 World Cup winner could not partake in Borussia Dortmund’s pre-season.
However, it is questionable how much playing time Durm would have gotten. The club strengthened their left-back position with the signature of Raphael Guerreiro, while 18-year-old Felix Passlack impressed on the right-back position, lastly in BVB’s 2-0 Supercup loss against Bayern.
The youngster seems to be poised for bigger things in behind Lukasz Piszczek, making Durm’s chances to reappear in a Black and Yellow shirt any time soon even slimmer.
Marco Reus still in individual training
Borussia Dortmund reported several times that midfielder Marco Reus will join team training in parts in mid-August. He did some light running on Wednesday, however, on a separate field.
