Borussia Dortmund travel to third tier side Sportfreunde Lotte in the DFB Pokal quarterfinals.
It took another dramatic penalty shoot-out for the Black and Yellows to progress to the next round in the German cup on Wednesday night after the scoreboard read 1-1 after 120 in the Westfalenstadion between BVB and Hertha Berlin.
Sportfreunde Lotte have put Werder Bremen, Bayer Leverkusen and 1860 Munich aside to secure themselves a meeting with BVB at the end of February.
“It’s probably going to be another cup-fight with first-round character,” said Matthias Ginter on Wednesday night, adding: “We’ll prepare for the game as for any other game and proceed to the next round.”
From all possible draws, the away match to Lotte is the lightest for Dortmund, who should be fine without their best centre-back Sokratis Papastathopoulos, who will be suspended after being sent-off for complaining to the referee twice.
For BVB it is also convenient, that the Sportpark am Lotter Kreuz is located roughly 100km away, ensuring a short trip.
