Will Borussia Dortmund sign Gonzalo Castro from Bayer 04 Leverkusen?
We will find out very soon, whether there is any truth to the rumors surrounding the 27 year old midfielder to join the black and yellows. Castro has one year left on his contract at Leverkusen, but his papers include a buy-out clause, that can be triggered for €12 million. But Dortmund have to make a decision within the next week, since the clause will expire on the 25.05.2015.
Gonzalo Castro, who was born in Wuppertal and played for Leverkusen since the U 14 level, will certainly fit into a side coached by Thomas Tuchel. The midfielder can be utilized in various positions on the field and is comfortable with changing his position during a match. Ideal for Tuchel, who isn’t afraid to overhaul is tactical setup during a game several times. From six to ten, from right back to left wing, Castro has played on most positions during his career, which makes him a great utility player but never a specialist. Those players are always great to have in the squad – like Kevin Großkreutz often functioned as positional band aid. Castro would certainly be an interesting signing with a very low risk, since he is Bundesliga proven and will almost definitely be a great addition to the squad.
Though nothing is quite decided yet. Michael Zorc has a great assignment ahead of him. The sporting director has to replace Sebastian Kehl, who is hanging up his boots after this season and Ilkay Gündogan, who won’t prolong his until 2016 running contract.
A lot of players have been linked with Dortmund as of now. Johannes Geis seems to be all but done, Anderlecht’s Youri Tielemans has been the latest one to be linked with Dortmund. Of course, it would a gamble for Dortmund to invest €15 million into a 19 year old. BVB cannot afford to make losses on a transfer, as they probably will do on Ramos and Immobile. Though it has to be said, that Tielemans just prolonged his contract with RSC Anderlecht until 2020. It’s not likely that Borussia Dortmund will be able to get their hands on the prodigy, even if they wanted to.
It will stay interesting who Dortmund will sign to accommodate Nuri Sahin, Sven Bender and Matthias Ginter in central midfield next season.
…. does anyone still believe in Moritz Leitner?
