Borussia Dortmund draw Liverpool FC in the Europa League’s quarter-final. A lot of BVB fans could have waited for the “JÜRGEN KLOPP WILL RETURN TO HIS OLD LOVE“-narrative for a little while longer, but let’s enjoy the match up while it presents itself.
The Black and Yellows are favourites for the match, there is no doubt about that. Yet, unlike Tottenham, Liverpool will take the Europa League seriously and will give Dortmund a real run for their money.
Two thrilling games await with two great set of fans in two prominent venues. (1st leg: 7.4. in Dortmund; 2nd leg: 14.4 in Liverpool),
But for Borussia Dortmund the entire week will be enticing, as the Revierderby against Schalke will take place on the 10.4.
Inevitably, emotions will be high. The world will get to see a great coaching duel on the sidelines between Klopp and Tuchel, while the fans can prepare for a great atmosphere.
Hans-Joachim Watzke (CEO): “Based on our experiences this season, it was to be expected that Alexander Frei wouldn’t draw an ordinary match. Now Jürgen Klopp will return to his home with Liverpool, which will certainly be something very special. We we’re sure that we would meet the Reds on the European stage at some point. Now we can look forward to two extremely attractive international duels.”
Jürgen Klopp (Liverpool coach): “It is better to play against them in two games than in only one game. I am really happy to introduce my new team to Dortmund. I am really happy to show the boys this wonderful stadium and a great city. It’s a story only football can write.”
“Going to Dortmund and playing in Dortmund is one of the best things you can do in football.”
“Dortmund are a very strong side in Germany and, probably in most of the leagues in the world, they would be champions this year. In Germany, they have the problem that Bayern Munich is in the league!
“They’re a really strong opponent. But we are not bad too! Everybody knows our best games have been made against really strong sides, so we know how to play this, we know how to handle it and we know a lot of Dortmund players – not all, but 98 per cent. So it’s open and two games that I think the whole world will watch.”
Michael Zorc (sporting director) : “It’s the perfect draw for the media and fans. From a sporting point of view, it’s another big challenge after Porto and Tottenham. Both matches will be very enticing.
“First and foremost we want to make it through to the next round. Liverpool is a massive test. Obviously it’ll be an extraordinary occasion with Jürgen Klopp returning. It’ll be a special moment, though we aren’t looking to stage romantic evenings, but to prevail to the next round.”
Thomas Tuchel (coach): “We want to compete against the best and face another top-opponent. The draw is a dream for every football fan. It’s an enormous challenge for us. We will need two top performances in order to prevail. We’re looking forward to two matches on the highest level.”
Mats Hummels (club captain): “We will face a great club with yet another great stadium. The draw is once again incredibly enticing, but also very tough from a sporting angle.”
