Borussia Dortmund extended the contracts with four of their youth players until 2018. Dzenis Burnic (16), Felix Passlack (16), David Sauerland (17), Dominik Reimann (17) are the quartet in question, who won the u17 Championship with BVB last campaign.

Burnic and Passlack have already featured in friendlies during the winter break this year. Sauerland and Reimann are already playing for BVB’s under 19 and are among Dortmund’s highly promising prospects. These are the players Jürgen Klopp meant, when he said “Dortmund is well-positioned for the future, they have great guys coming through the youth ranks.I could already cry, because I won’t get to train them.”

Thomas Tuchel will probably be keen to take them under his tutelage, once they reach the necessary stage of development. BVB’s youth-coordinator Lars Ricken is proudly raving about the contract extensions: “These four boys have proved in last year’s title win, how important they are for us. And in the current season they are reaffirming their exceedingly positive development. The long-dated commitment of the quartet underlines our sustainable work at Borussia Dortmund.”

It’s worth keeping an eye on these four players. It’s about time Borussia Dortmund bring up more players through their own ranks. It is very good news for these boys, that Thomas Tuchel will become the new head coach in Dortmund. The 41 year old has already brought up several youth players at Mainz and will press the issue at BVB as well.
