After signing Alexander Isak earlier on Monday, Borussia Dortmund announced midfielder Christian Pulisic has signed a contract extension tying him to the Ruhr side until 2020.
United States international Pulisic had previously signed a youth-player contract until 2019. The new deal will surely give him a well-deserved raise and should quiet down never-ending speculation that the 18-year-old might leave Dortmund as soon as next summer.
The Hershey, Pennsylvania native debuted less than 12 months ago in a win over FC Ingolstadt after a successful stint with Dortmund’s academy teams. A versatile winger who can also play in central roles, Pulisic has set a number of club, league and international records since his debut.
This season, Dortmund’s No. 22 appeared in 19 of the team’s 26 matches across competitions, scoring two and assisting six goals. In a reflection of the trust from head coach Thomas Tuchel, Pulisic started many important matches, including five of six in the UEFA Champions League group stage.
Pulisic said in the club’s press release:
I still have a lot to learn. I feel Dortmund offers the best conditions to do that. I have the chance to play in front of over 80,000 fans. We have the best supporters in the world – it does not get any better than that!
