Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans Joachim-Watzke once again confirmed in Sportbild, that Ilkay Gündogan will leave the club in summer. It’s safe to say that the DFB Pokal final on Saturday will be Gündogan’s last match in a black and yellow shirt.
“Ilkay Gündogan will leave Borussia Dortmund this summer. That’s out of the question.”
Watzke’s statement puts Manchester United in pole position to sign the German international, who is standing on top of Louis Van Gaal’s shopping list. BVB are hoping to make at least £18 million with Gündogan, whose contract is running out in 2016.
There have been speculations by Mundo Deportivo linking the highly touted midfielder to Barcelona. Though Gündogan would only be able to move the Barcelona in January due to the ongoing transfer ban – otherwise it would be a good option for Gündogan to form a new midfield in the wake of Xavi and the aging Andrés Iniesta.
