“We will never sack Jürgen Klopp.” Dortmund boss Hans Joachim Watzke told Sportbild on Wednesday. “He has done incredible service to Borussia Dortmund, it will never come to a confrontational situation with him.”
While any other manager in any other club in a similar situation would have either been sacked a long time ago or at least be in the hot seat, yet Jürgen Klopp is well seated in a throne built of ice to stay in the metaphor.
Serenity might currently be the most valuable virtue in Dortmund. Letting Jürgen Klopp go would simply be a big mistake. Not only because the BVB coach had to deal with many outside factors he couldn’t influence this season, (Injuries, unfit squad, players out of form, etc.), but also doesn’t go from highly praised coach to incapable within one season.
Besides, Jürgen Klopp lives and breathes Borussia Dortmund. He identifies with and embodies the black and yellows like nobody else. Plus he is a really entertaining bloke and it would just not make any sense at all to ditch that for the marginal hope that somebody else would do a better job. And if Dortmund were to sack Jürgen Klopp, who’d they bring in? Jens Keller? Thomas Tuchel might be an acceptable should, but hardly a necessary measure.
Although there is currently a lot of pressure on Klopp and the whole team, it’s hard to imagine this club without him. Surely, there will come a time where Borussia Dortmund and Jürgen Klopp depart, but this won’t be the case before 2018.
