Who is Felix Passlack, the 16 year old, who is training with Borussia Dortmund’s pros in LaManga?
Some of you might have already heard of him when he won the German u 17 Championship with Borussia Dortmund last year in Leipzig, defeating RB Leipzig 2:1. He is also a part of the u 17 German national team, having made his debut with the eagle on his crest at under 16 level.
Sebastian Kehl had lauding words for the youngster on Monday: “He is doing an excellent job. He is cheeky and soaks up every impression with a bright grin.”
No doubt, 16-year-old Passlack will make his dream of becoming a professional footballer true, as he is already a highly regarded talent. Yet, there is one intriguing fact about the teenager: He’s Schalke fan!
Being born and raised in Bottrop, a town just east of Gelsenkirchen, it’s hardly surprising that Felix Passlack is favoring the blue team. It’s more of a surprise, that he chose BVB over S04, as both clubs showed interest when he was spotted at the Revier Cup, playing for RW Oberhausen’s under 13. While he is training five times a week at the Borussia Dortmund training ground, he is visiting the Veltins Arena on weekends.
But that doesn’t stop us from wanting this kid to succeed, even if it’s only for the sake of all the possible puns that can be made with his last name.
For now he has a foot in the door and training with the professionals in Spain will surely help with his development. He is certainly one to keep an eye on and soon he will play for Dortmund’s u 19 – who knows, maybe he’ll play for the first team one day. After all Germany needs full backs.
And maybe we’ll find out, whether Schalke is curable…
