One day before his extension clause ran out, Borussia Dortmund announced the signature of Gonzalo Castro. The midfielder will transfer for €11 million from Bayer Leverkusen to the Ruhr and penned a four year deal with BVB.
It’s the first transfer for Borussia Dortmund this season. Sporting director Michael Zorc is quoted on the club’s homepage: “We are happy to have won an experienced, technically adapt midfielder, who can be utilized on several positions.”
It’s Dortmund’s first transfer of the season and serene one. Castro is a solid choice to replace Ilkay Gündogan, who is leaving the black and yellows in summer. It will interesting to see how the 27 year old will settle into the side and get along with his new teammates on and off the field. Will he battle for a position in the starting lineup with Nuri Sahin, or has Thomas Tuchel different plans for him?
Gonzalo Castro more or less announced the transfer himself in the post-match interview on Sky: “It’s not an easy decision, to take such a step. But I said before, that I want to seek new challenges. (The transfer) will probably be announced in the following days.”
The current season isn’t over, but 2015/2016 is starting to shape up. What do you guys think about this transfer? Post your opinion in the comment section below.
