The contract of the attacking midfielder runs until 2020 but both parties are yet to agree on a contract extension. BVB want to cut Götze’s salary by 20 percent with the next contract extension according to Bild. The 2014 World Cup winner is reportedly earning €10m per year but is supposed to go as low as €8m. Unsurprisingly, the 27-year-old is not impressed with that proposal at the heel of a strong season. More talks planned The next negotiations between the player and the club bosses are scheduled for the training camp in Bad Ragaz, Switzerland which will take place between July 27. – 2. August. The news is not surprising as the club is still uncertain whether the German midfielder will be an automatic starter in BVB’s crowded midfield. Götze, who made headlines after saying that he is contemplating a move abroad, might not be the first choice for either the no. 9, 10 or 8 positions under Lucien Favre despite his outstanding showing last season. His next move might depend on whether BVB are planning to add another striker in the summer transfer window. However, CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke recently revealed that another centre-forward is not a top priority for the club. A contract extension still seems the best solution for all parties involved but money talks. Stefan Buczko Editor-in-chief and Host of the Yellowwallpod.
