lkay Gündogan will leave Borussia Dortmund next summer, as he did not extend his contract running until 2016. Der Westen and Ruhrnachrichten are reporting it, which means there is something on to it. BVB made it clear, that they will sell the midfielder, if he doesn’t extend in order to avoid skipping another payday after letting Robert Lewandowski go on a free transfer.
Manchester United seems to be the club of destiny for Ilkay Gündogan and €30 million sounds like a nice juicy fee for Borussia Dortmund, who will need money to finance their transition over the summer. Manchester United fans can look forward to a midfield maestro, who is absolute world class in his position – unless he’s injured for a whole season. He oozes creativity, intelligence and oversight on the field and has the technical abilities to qualify as “pressing resistant” which is an important feature in the modern game. Mats Hummels is also a name which is floating through the rumor mill on a daily basis. As much as the defender is fed up with being constantly asked about his future, he hasn’t made a decision either. It’s possible that BVB will see two of their best players leaving to the Premiere League by the end of the season.
It’s sad for Borussia Dortmund to see such a great player leave, who was brought in for €4.5 million in 2011 from 1. FC Nürnberg to replace Nuri Sahin. At first, it looked like no player could ever replace the institution that was Sahin in BVB’s midfield, but by the end of the season Gündogan made people forget about Sahin quickly.
Now Sahin is back in Dortmund and he has slowly coming back to form since his returning from his Madrid-Liverpool Odyssey, so BVB are covered on the so called “8”, but of course with Kehl leaving as well, the black and yellows must become active on the transfer market for another defensive midfielder. Johannes Geis from FSV Mainz 05 is a realistic shout, that would make a lot of sense for BVB.
But first Dortmund need to qualify for the EL to gather another persuasive argument to lure highly touted players like Geis to BVB. Funnily enough Mainz might have helped Dortmund to achieve this target, as they beat FC Schalke on Friday. The chase is on, if BVB manage to beat Eintracht Frankfurt, which will cut down the margin to three points. If the outlook of catching Schalke this season isn’t enough to cast excitement, than nothing will.
