It’s nothing less than the most important mid-season preparation in more than 30 years for Borussia Dortmund, who are amidst the relegation fight and need to work hard and well to fight their way out of the drop zone and out of the crisis. The black and yellows have three weeks time to find back into their stride, before the immense pressure will pile on once the Bundesliga returns at the end of January.
Mitchel Langerak, Shinji Kagawa and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang missing due to the Asian Cup and African Cup of Nations is far from ideal for Dortmund’s preparation, but news from the first three days of training will turn things back to the bright side.
Long term injured Marco Reus is back in full team training since the start of the training, while Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Henrikh Mikhitaryan aren’t too far away from rejoining team training either. Latest in La Manga the two absentees will complete the group.
Adrian Ramos, Neven Subotic, Erik Durm and Ciro Immobile missed the lactate test on Tuesday, but on Thursday Ramos ran rounds around the training ground nursing his muscular problems.
Durm and Immobile are back in full team training as well after defeating a very severe case of man-flu, only Neven Subotic is still a bit under the weather – and who could blame him? The weather is really shoddy here in Dortmund. 5°C and perpetual rain are setting not the most comfortable climate.

The Dortmund players will certainly look forward to their trip to Spain. Hopefully everyone will still be healthy until then…
More importantly Jürgen Klopp will now find a sufficient group of players to efficiently work on the deficits and so far it looks like Borussia Dortmund can go through with the required preparation for a successful half-series.
