According to Der Westen, midfielder Jonas Hofmann will join Borussia Mönchengladbach in the winter transfer window. He undergoes his medical on Monday. A transfer fee has yet to be announced.
In 2011, Hofmann signed for Borussia Dortmund, coming from Hoffenheim’s under-19 team. After spending two years mostly with the reserve team, the Heidelberg-born midfielder became a regular member of the Bundesliga squad in 2013, being subbed in 34-times during his first season.
Dortmund then sent him on loan to Mainz. Unfortunately, knee injuries hindered him from playing more than 13 games. Nevertheless, Hofmann intended to fight for a spot in Dortmund’s starting eleven this season. He has not been able to keep up with the likes of Mkhitaryan and Reus, though.
Since mid-September, when Thomas Tuchel substituted him at half-time during a league match at Hoffenheim, Hofmann desperately hoped for playing time. During the Hinrunde, he scored two goals and assisted four more.
At M’Gladbach, Hofmann will likely be a replacement for the injured wingers Patrick Herrmann and André Hahn.
