Marcel Schmelzer did not travel with the team to Munich, nor did he participate in Friday’s final training – it looks as he will miss the clash against Bayern. Furthermore Neven Subotic’s absence has been confirmed.
Where is Marcel Schmelzer, you ask? – We don’t know. When Thomas Tuchel held his press conference on Friday noon, no updates on team news were provided.
It goes without saying that Schmelzer’s absence would be massive blow to Dortmund’s chances in Munich. The left-back has been in great form so far this season and has been an important figure in Dortmund’s Gegenpressing. It would be Park Joo-ho, who went the full distance against PAOK FC, to go up against Kingsley Coman in the wake of Schmelzer. Though it is hard to say how well the Korean will integrate into the Dortmund team in a match on such a high level.
Yet, there has been no official confirmation of Schmelzer not being fit for the match. The left-back might have been hindered by urgent reasons to miss the final training and might arrive in Munich on Sunday. Of course that is all highly speculative, but hope dies last.
