Kicker is reporting that 1. FC Köln are near to closing the deal with Milos Jojic for an alleged fee of €2.5 million. A transfer that would suit all involved parties. The 23 year old midfielder, who joined Borussia Dortmund from FK Partizan in January of 2014, is highly talented, yet not on the level to win regular playing time against the competition in the BVB squad.
No Borussia Dortmund fan will forget, how Milos Jojic absolutely dominated the midfield together with Oliver Kirch in a 2-0 win over Real Madrid, or how he scored his first Bundesliga goal with his very first touch, being odd 12 seconds on the field. But less will remember what came after a his first half season. In his second season he just fell short of making the cut to make regular appearances, which would be unlikely to change in another campaign with Borussia Dortmund. Either in central midfield nor in the offensive midfield the versatile player has realistic hopes to exceed the status of a stopgap.
For his career to prosper, the young Serb needs to find a club, that will grant him playing time. Meanwhile BVB have currently not much reason to hold on to Jojic, as they made it a priority to thin out their squad before the new seasons starts – Moritz Leitner is another candidate to be offloaded in the coming weeks, if any suitors are available.
A transfer to 1. FC Köln will definitely be the right move for Jojic, where he will be considered an upgrade to the squad. Undoubtedly, the 23 year old is already a decent Bundesliga player and might even become a great one in the next couple of seasons. Cologne fans can look forward to an exciting midfielder.
