Borussia Dortmund were without a chance in Munich on Saturday, losing 4-1. Here are the post-match quotes.
Thomas Tuchel: “Anything other than this dominance [by Bayern] and this result would have taken me by surprise. Bayern are currently presenting themselves on the highest level, which made this match comparable to an away match to Real Madrid or Barcelona. If you have to revert to youth players and have to field six players, who made their first match in Munich, and with Sebastian Rode who made his first appearance since half a year, then it’s an almost insurmountable task.
The run of play was also against us. We played top first 10 minutes, but the score was 2-0 Bayern. We had a massive chance to make it 3-2 via Auba – and concede a penalty on the next counter. This defeat is a bitter experience but these experiences will help us in future knock-out games.”
“There is hope that these players [Kagawa, Piszczek, Weigl return for Monaco but I don’t just need them back. I need them to be in form and full of energy.”
Roman Bürki: “I’m very disappointed with the result. The scoreline was a bit too high. Bayern used their chances, we did not. We had far too little possession in the second half [26%]. I saw the ball very late for the 0-1, it happened too quickly for me to see if Robben got a deflection on it. We had the first chance, Bayern were beatable in the first half.”
Jerome Boateng: “We played very well, especially in the first half and controlled the game. We didn’t defend well when we conceded the goal, that was a gift for Dortmund.”
