Borussia Dortmund came from behind to beat FC Augsburg 3-1 on Matchday 27 of the Bundesliga.
Here’s what the head coach and players had to say after the game (sources: WAZ, German broadcaster Sky, FCA-TV, Ruhr Nachrichten).
Thomas Tuchel: “The team showed an extraordinary mentality and will to win today. One could see for long stretches that we’re coming off physical and mental stress. It’s about being concentrated and focused and freeing yourselves from being behind, from point distances and things that happen elsewhere. The team manages for a long time already to play with great focus every three days, with the mentality that is needed to string together wins. We’re very pleased with that.”
Mats Hummels: “That was once again proof of our maturity. Because we kept our calm, because we knew very well we’d have the time to come back. The 0-1 was obviously a little annoying. It made for a difficult game, since Augsburg could focus on defending. We became a bit more precise in the second half. We had a few bad first touches in the first period, I’m including myself. We all had played our part, misplaced passes too easily, lost a duel too cheaply. That’s how chances develop. But we grew more and more concentrated, kept the ball better and did brilliantly well after the third goal, because we let the ball flow and made the opponent run.”
Hummels on Bayern Munich: “We’d like to be in the position of putting them under a bit of pressure by winning [before they play]. On the other hand, Bayern are playing so incredibly commanding at the moment, they don’t concede goals. But if they slip up, we’re still hanging on. Let’s see how long this will continue.”
Roman Bürki: “We struggled to stay focused at the start. We put ourselves at risk, they [Augsburg] had perhaps two shots and scored a goal in the first half. But we have confidence, we know what we’re capable off. The first half surely wasn’t what we’re expecting from ourselves. But we remained calm, nobody got nervous, we played our game. That was the key to success, that we stayed cool, also in the dressing room.”
