Borussia Dortmund advanced to the quarter-finals of the 2015/16 DFB-Pokal thanks to a convincing 2-0 victory over FC Augsburg on Wednesday evening.
Here’s what the head coach, sporting director and players had to say after the game (sources: BVB.de, derwesten.de).
Thomas Tuchel: “In the first half we were quite dogged in the way we built up the play. In the second half we were much better at finding spaces. The frequency of our passing was at a higher rate, we played with more tempo. It got better step by step. It was not easy to stay patient. I am happy that we stayed patient, that we were compact and deserved to win in the end.
Tuchel (on the win): “This was extraordinary, because we knew how tough it was going to be. Therefore it’s nice that this feels so clear and deserved right now. We can be completely satisfied.”
Mats Hummels: “It was a difficult game where we coped very well and deserved to win. The opponent ended up getting exhausted, they lost concentration for a moment, they took one step less. Augsburg really gave a lot in the first half. We knew that we had to stay patient. We were very concentrated in the way we played, we did not often lose the ball in dangerous areas. We have made a step forward.”
Michael Zorc (on the next opponent in the cup, Stuttgart): “We obviously would’ve preferred a home game after our difficult game at Augsburg, but we’ll have to take this the way it is. It’s going to be a very tough game, much like it was today. You can see they’ve become more sturdy [under caretaker manager Kramny]. You don’t make it to Berlin [to the final] thanks to a bye, so we’ll have to make it work somehow.”
