Borussia Dortmund won their fifth match in a row on Saturday, beating Werder Bremen in the Weser-Stadion, 3-1.
Here’s what the head coach and players had to say after the game (Sources: bvb.de, derwesten.de, ruhrnachrichten.de).
Thomas Tuchel: “We had problems in the first half, we couldn’t prevent all of Bremen’s counter attacks. Our 2-1 lead at the half was somewhat lucky. I am very pleased with the second 45 minutes, however. We never lost concentration and created a lot of great goalscoring chances. I’m very, very happy. My compliments to the team.”
Tuchel on the Bundesliga table: “When looking at the table, we’re looking at ourselves. I’m getting the sense from my team that we’re capable of concentrating only on ourselves. We have to keep walking this path – we haven’t won anything yet.”
Tuchel on Marco Reus: “We always saw how hard he’s working – also when things didn’t go his way. Marco always eluded confidence, because he knows what he can do. That it’s going so well now is a great feeling for all of us.”
Marco Reus: “It was extremely difficult for us. We were patient, but we didn’t find our tempo in the first half, despite the lead. At the half, we talked about playing more decisively, letting the ball circulate more. We did well in the end. It was harder than it looked.”
Julian Weigl: “I wouldn’t say it was easy. We had problems advancing to dangerous areas in the first half. We had a lot of possession but didn’t create many opportunities. We thought of solutions at half-time and did very well and won deservedly.”
Weigl on Aubameyang not scoring: “Console him? Perhaps I’ll tease him. No, it just goes to show that this team can function without him scoring. He saved us often times, but today you could see that we have quality up front and everyone can score for us. It’s always good to know for players like myself that we have so many guys who can decide a match.”
Weigl on squad rotation: “That’s definitely new for me. At 1860 Munich we didn’t advance in the cup and didn’t play in Europe. The manager gave me a rest in the cup, that was important for me. I’m feeling fresher, but, generally speaking, I don’t have any problems right now. At the moment it doesn’t feel like I’m hitting a wall. I just try to contribute each and every day and rest my body in between. I’m doing quite well so far.”
