Borussia Dortmund followed up their 6-0 hammering of Darmstadt with another big win on Matchday 4 of the Bundesliga, beating VfL Wolfsburg 5-1 on the road on Tuesday night. Here’s what the head coaches and players had to say after the match (sources: Sky, BVB.de, VfL-Wolfsburg.de)
Roman Bürki: “I can’t think of a better performance when it comes down to saves. Today, I finally had the possibility to shine. We knew beforehand that it would be a tough game. We analysed Wolfsburg and we aware of their extraordinary quality upfront, which they showed today. I’m happy that we came out as winners.”
Marcel Schmelzer: “The coach already said it on yesterday’s news conference that we’d be ill-advised to compare last year’s team with the current one – although we’re on a good run – because we played an amazing last season. You can currently sense how much joy we exude on the field. We’re happy to play every three days.”
Lukasz Piszczek: “I’m really happy to have scored for the first time after 2.5 years [ed: in the Bundesliga]. I don’t score so often, and now I even scored a header. Naturally, I’m highly satisfied.”
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang: “Obviously I’m happy with my two goals. We showed a great game and can be satisfied. Though we had a couple of problems in the second half and ultimately conceded a goal. Afterwards we managed to take the game back into our hands with well-executed counter attacks. At the moment nobody can really stop us, except for Bayern maybe. But we mustn’t be satisfied, we have to keep working hard.”
Thomas Tuchel: “For a long time it didn’t feel like such a clear victory. We scored five goals and went 2-0 up early. However, we had to suffer through many minutes in the first half and the beginning of the second half and allowed many opportunities.
It was only a matter of time until Wolfsburg would pull one back. The 2-1 was a wake up call and we regained a grip on the match. We created chances off our transition play and were very efficient in taking them. The win was touch-and-go for a long time.”

Dieter Hecking: “We at least should have scored four goals today as well. Dortmund realised today that we have much more quality than Darmstadt and Legia.”
Mario Gomez: “We were too wasteful today. We had problems at defending through balls today – we conceded twice from two attempts in the first 12 minutes. It took a while until we found into we got into the match.
However, we created five or six must-score chances in the first half. I’m here to score goals and I’m sorry for the team that I once again couldn’t finish the chances I had. That way you cannot win games. We could have gotten away with a point today. I’m long enough in the business to keep my head up. Goals will come again at some point.”
