Match report – find our comprehensive match report hereThomas Tuchel: “I’m very happy with how bravely we defended. We always had more security in our passing. We became completely dominant after the half-time break and pushed Tottenham into their own half. We put our stamp on the game with that determination. It’s a good, good feeling to be the coach of a team that can step up to its performance every three days.”
Tuchel (on Marco Reus): “I’m especially happy about his two goals. They’ll further boost his morale.”
Tuchel (on Ilkay Gündogan and Sven Bender): “We have to wait and see about Gündogan. Maybe he can play with a special shoe. We hope it’s just a scare for Bender. He slipped and the muscle became tight.”
Michael Zorc: “We played very, very well, dominated the entire match and allowed only one or two shots in the game. Maybe we could’ve scored one more goal if we had taken our chances better. But, overall, it’s a very good point of departure for the return leg. My compliments to the team. But we’re not through just yet. Tottenham will give a better account of themselves next week.”
Marco Reus: “Tottenham rested three or four players who usually play in the Premier League. But we didn’t care. We played a very good match over the course of 90 minutes. When we play like this, we’re strong.”
