News Neven Subotic Out for Rest of the Season Borussia Dortmund announced on Friday that centre-back Neven Subotic will miss the rest of the season with a thrombosis in his arm. The club explained that the Serbian defender can’t take part in contact sports due to his medication. (Christof Koepsel/Bongarts/Getty Images) Subotic said, per the club’s official website, that he’s “doing relatively well” and vowed to come back stronger: “I can stay fit with individual training and and when I have recuperated again I will be in better physical condition than ever before.” One of the longest-serving players at the club and a true fan favourite, the 27-year-old appeared in 11 matches across competitions this season, having fallen behind Sokratis Papastathopoulos and converted defensive midfielder Sven Bender in the pecking order at centre-back. Subotic has been linked with a number of clubs from the Bundesliga and abroad and could well have played his last game for the Black and Yellows against Tottenham Hotspur on March 17. For the time being, Slovenian defender Jon Stankovic has been moved up to the first team to replace Subotic.
