The Belgium international is set to replace Kevin Kampl, who joined Bayer Leverkusen and Jakub Blaszczykowski, who is set to sign a loan deal with Fiorentina, in Dortmund’s offensive midfield. Thomas Tuchel has been on the outlook to add another left-footed player to his squad. With Januzaj, BVB have added depth and quality to the squad, that Kampl couldn’t provide on the same level. The offensive midfielder featured in 47 Premier League games for Manchester United, scoring five goals and assisting four. After being promoted from United’s U21 team, the midfielder was one of the revelations of the 2013/14 season, chalking up 15 Premier League starts. Under Louis van Gaal the youngster couldn’t quite reach the heights of his rookie season at the club, making the starting eleven only seven times in the league.
So far, Januzaj has started the majority of games for Manchester United in the current season, scoring against Aston Villa on match day 2. The 20-year-old is still a raw talent, but is equipped with a clean technique and dribbling skills. His ability to read the game and take the pace out off the play, if necessary will help him to fit into Thomas Tuchel’s system, which is based on dominance and a composed build-up play. It will be hard for Januzaj to breach the phalanx of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Shinji Kagawa and Marco Reus, but the youngster will receive plenty of game time in order to develop his talents, as Borussia Dortmund will have to distribute the strain of three competitions.
