Borussia Dortmund have acquired the talents of 18-year-old talent Ousmane Dembélé from Stade Rennes. The attacking midfielder has signed a contract until 2021. BVB have transferred a reported fee of €15 million to the French club.
Borussia Dortmund have brought in one of the most sought after talents in Europe. The player joined Rennes as a 13-year-old in 2012 and debuted for the seniors in November 2015. He has been already touted as the “young Ronaldo” – words one has to be very careful with, of course.
However, BVB’s officials are very upbeat to have finalized the deal.
“Ousmane can play almost every position in attack. He is strong in one-on-one situations, has no weaker foot, is fast and lethal in front of goal.” BVB sporting director Michael Zorc is quoted on the club’s official website.
“We are very elated to announce the signature of Ousmane Dembélé. It is a big step for us, because we believe he is one of the greatest ‘hot-spots’ of young European footballers. I have nothing but respect when I see how many high profile offers from all over Europe Ousmane has turned back and how he has stood firm about his commitment to BVB over such a long period of time. We also have to thank Stade Rennes for very fair negotiations.” said Dortmund boss Hans-Joachim Watzke. Dembélé was linked to FC Bayern and Barcelona among other renowned clubs.

In 25 games in Ligue 1 Dembélé scored 12 goals and racked up five assists for Stade Rennes, which awarded him the Ligue 1’s 2015-2016 young player of the year award.
Dembélé is looking forward to his new challenge and is quoted: “Borussia Dortmund got in contact with me very early and stayed in touch closely – that left a good impression with me. I’m completely convinced by BVB’s sporting philosophy. I can’t wait to play in front of 80,000 spectators in the Westfalenstadion and to play Champions League football.”
If you have followed Dembélé’s recent activities on twitter than you will know that he and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang have already bonded quite well. That should guarantee a quick integration.
