After a good start against Leverkusen, the first home match of 2015 is on the horizon.
And I must say, I’m enormously excited as I’m nervous about this kick at the Westfalenstadion. Against Augsburg an approach like the one against Leverkusen won’t work much. Dortmund are playing at home and controlling the game is expected of them. A lesser amount of possession and a passing success rate of 44% will simply not cut it against Augsburg.
This time the black and yellows will have to properly build up from the back and that was one of the biggest problems before the winter break. The match will tell how much Borussia Dortmund improved in their three weeks of intense training and whether fans can look forward to the rest of the season, or if it will continue to be a long and tough season.
The return of Ilkay Gündogan will certainly help with that, but on Wednesday night Borussia Dortmund just has to show, that they are back to old strength. Maybe an unrealistic craving, but come on. 80.000 Dortmund fans, flood lights and a usually thankful opponent with FC Augsburg, who never won against BVB.
Though one cannot neglect the quality Markus Weinzierl’s side brings on the pitch, it will certainly no easy win.
