It’s official! Neven Subotic is staying a Dortmund player for at least two more seasons. The center back has announced it on his own instagram account.
A hardly surprising news. Subotic had two options: Leave this summer or extend his contract, as his current deal is running out in 2016. Although Neven Subotic has always flirted with a move to the English Premiere League he is one of the faces of this Borussia Dortmund team and one of the linchpins in BVB’s success. Subotic’s bond with the club is great and seeing his college Mats Hummels stay on for at least another season will have convinced him, that staying in Dortmund is the smarter move.
Subotic, who joined BVB along with Klopp in 2008, has racked up 238 games for BVB. After suffering an anterior cruciate ligament tear in November 2013, which kept him out for almost a year, the defender has found it hard to find his form in a yellow shirt. Yet, Subotic will eventually be back to his best and it would be very hard for Borussia Dortmund to come up with a suitable replacement.
