Borussia Dortmund’s first two days of training are past. Since there is no training session scheduled for the afternoon, Thomas Tuchel spoke to the journalists at the “NAS Sports Complex” to give a summary on the current personnel situation. While patience is still required until Nuri Sahin will return to the pitch, Marco Reus is making vast progress. All quotes from Ruhr Nachrichten.
…Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang: “Nobody will stop him from buying a round for everyone. On Sunday he leisurely ran a couple of rounds and on Monday he will return to regular team training. It’s not a classic six week summer preparation, so we will find a good mix for him, since he also trained by himself. It’s certainly a challenge for him, but not a big problem.”
…Nuri Sahin: “We have to bring a lot of patience with Nuri, since he is recovering from a long-term injury. We are happy for each day, he can be on the pitch with us and go through our training routines. But thus far he trains without committing to physical challenges, shots on goal and the last necessary bit of fitness. It’ll still take a while until he returns.”
…Erik Durm: “In Erik’s case it’s a bit different compared to Nuri’s. His problems were solved by the surgery. He feels very liberated and only had to take a short break because of muscular problems in the neck area. I expect him to participate in the friendlies.”
…Sven Bender: “Manni is yet to participate in team training, since we started. There is no definite diagnosis yet. I have no idea when he will return, since it seemed unlikely that he would miss at all. It took us by surprise, so we have to see for his improvements each day. We miss him a lot though, the squad is very thin, it’s far from ideal.”
…Marcel Schmelzer: “Schmelle feels better, he should enter team training within the next days.”
…Marco Reus:” If I had one wish, then I would wish that he can play 29 matches in the Rückrunde. If I look at the reality, we’re extremely satisfied with the way he trains. He leaves a focused and steady impression. It’s a great joy to watch, but he is still lacking a bit, which is why we have to be patient. We need Marco to trust in his own body. Though his showings on the training ground this week were top notch.”
