On MatchDay 23, I had the distinct pleasure of being a part of “The Yellow Wall” for BVB’s 3-1 win over Hoffenheim. Being able to watch the match from the heart of The Yellow Wall is an experience that I will never forget. THE HYPE IS REAL! We barely stopped singing during the match, even after BVB conceded the first goal in the 25th minute. When Mkhitaryan equalized in the 80th minute we went crazy BUT it wasn’t until Ramos scored the second goal that I really got a taste (literally) of a goal celebration in the Südtribüne by way of a beer shower! I was soaked and it was amazing!
Being from the United States, I have been trying to think of something to compare this experience to but nothing comes close. Definitely nothing in the realm of professional sporting events. I’ve been lucky enough to go to a few other European football matches in England, Spain and the Netherlands and can say that they did not share the same passion as the supporters in “The Yellow Wall”. You can hear me report on my experience of standing on Europe’s greatest terrace on the latest episode of the Yellowwallpod as well.
