It is hardly a secret that Bayer Leverkusen defender Ömer Toprak is set to join Borussia Dortmund next summer. On Saturday, sporting director Rudi Völler confirmed those plans.
“I want to have a good, and successful ending here,” Toprak told Kicker two weeks ago, hinting at a looming exit. On Saturday, Rudi Völler confirmed that the 27-year-old centre-back is Dortmund-bound with all likeliness.
“Borussia Dortmund will trigger Ömer Toprak’s release clause with all likeliness,” the 56-year-old told Sky.
Toprak was close to joining the Ruhr side last summer, but the deal didn’t go through as BVB were not willing to pay a demanded fee of €25 million. In 2017 Toprak can join Dortmund for a reported fixed sum of €12 million.
